Darien Peacock
Position: Vice President Finance
Personal Description:
Hey everyone, My name is Darien, I am a 5th year Biomedical Engineering student entering my final semesters before graduation. While I have been around the ECSS quite a bit, I have never run for any positions previously, instead focusing on other pursuits within the university community. This summer, however, I was informed that the VP Finance role had remained unfilled, and I was encouraged to apply by my peers. I suppose it’s time for me to finally do my part for the ECSS, a society that’s benefited me greatly over the past 4 years, and offer them my expertise as VP Finance
Platform:
Aside from thoroughly managing my own budgets as a post-secondary student, I have helped manage portions of large industrial projects such as Site C and the PGTC during a couple of my coop terms; experience that I will be leveraging in office. As VP Finance, I will strive for transparency and clarity in the ECSS budget, ensure accordance with the budget, and build greater foundations and tools to aid my successors in the years to follow. Thank you, Darien Peacock

First Year Representative
Shay-Neel Lad
Position: First Year Representative
Personal Description:
Hi, I am Shay, and I am from Calgary, Alberta. I enjoy a wide range of activities, including playing hockey, soccer, and other sports that capture my interest. I also really enjoy the outdoors, whether that's going on a hike, swimming at the beach, taking a walk, or just watching the sunset - I love it all. Don't even get me started on robotics, because it’s been a really big passion of mine for the past four years. Designing and building rovers and random gadgets will always be something that I enjoy.
Platform:
As First-Year Representative, I want to connect the engineering and computer science kids together through fun and engaging activities or events. As a first-year myself, I understand that the change between home life and university life is very different, especially coming from places with completely different lifestyles. It will be my goal to help support those who are struggling in this transition of life. A big thing that I would like to make sure is established is communication. Communication is a vital part of building a community, especially in our faculty. I want to make an open and engaging community where people are not scared to reach out to each other for help or even for a friendly little chat to make some new friends.
Point Form Summary of Platform Description:
● Represent first-year student voices in ECSS decisions
● Improve communication between ECSS and first-years
● Help organize events for all ECSS students
● Encourage students to partake in ECSS-led events
Scarlett Steyn
Position: First Year Representative
Personal Description:
As a person, I’m passionate about things that bring people together: from the friendly competition of badminton and creativity of art to the teamwork needed to solve escape rooms. Like many students, my journey into engineering started in high school, where I ran my local FIRST Robotics Team. With this I learned very quickly what was needed from a representative: compassion, work ethic, and a genuine desire to make a community better. These are values I exemplified in my life and ultimately got me where I am today.
Platform:
My strongest belief is that community makes all the difference in life. If elected, my primary focus would be supporting both the educational and social needs of first-year students. The first year of university is always the hardest; you’re transitioning from the familiarity of high school or work life to the rigorous demands of higher education. So, if there is any way to alleviate some of those stressors, I will try my best to make it happen: forming study groups, professional workshops, collaborative design events, and some plain old fun ones. Couple this with regular feedback from the everyday student body, and I am confident we will be able to foster an amazing first year for everyone.
Point Form Summary of Platform Description:
● Focus on the educational and social needs of first-year students
● Building a strong community that will follow students throughout their degree.
● Plan a variety of events, from professional workshops and collaborative design sessions to social gatherings
● Incorporating feedback from students and working to incorporate that into our daily life
● Be a voice for the first-year engineering student body
