Vice President Events
Negin Kazemlou
VP Events
Personal Description
Hi, my name is Negin, and I am a fourth-year civil engineering student. I have been the director of social events for the past two semesters, and I enjoy planning events. I have helped plan events such as the EEE, ornament making, tote bag painting, the hockey game, and the grad gala. I enjoy creating these experiences that allow students to connect, have fun, and feel part of the community. I am excited about the opportunity to take on a larger role and contribute more to student life as VP Events.
Platform Description
As VP Events, my goal is to create a diverse and engaging series of events that balance social connection, professional development, and fun. I plan to organize a mix of event types to appeal to a wide range of students, ensuring there are both large, memorable experiences and smaller, more accessible events throughout the year.
I would organize a variety of larger events, including a 2027 Grad Gala, alongside seasonal and outdoor events such as beach days with canvas painting, water games, and snow-day activities. I also aim to run engaging social events, including trivia nights, karaoke, and comedy nights, as well as themed social events and sports tournaments. In addition, I would continue ECSS traditions such as the EEE pub crawl and the hockey game.
To support students academically and socially, I would include low-pressure, creative events during busy periods, such as painting and decorating sessions. I also plan to organize professional networking opportunities through co-op-focused panels.
Finally, I would love to continue bug push and Pi Day for our charity initiatives, and also introduce other fundraising events like bake sales and biking competitions. Overall, I plan to create a well-rounded events calendar that strengthens the ECSS community and offers something for everyone.

Shay Lad
VP Events
Personal Description
Hi, my name is Shay, and I’m a first-year engineering student. I hope to declare electrical engineering as my major in my second year. I have been a director of sporting events for the ECSS this past semester and am also a director of sponsorship for the Diversity in Engineering conference. I’m excited to bring energy back to the events at UVic.
Platform Description
As VP of Events, I want to make ECSS events more consistent, engaging, and easier for students to participate in. I aim to increase attendance by hosting a mix of events, not just large ones, but also smaller, more casual gatherings that people can drop into easily. This approach allows more students to get involved. With my sponsorship experience, I’ll work to secure more support for events to enhance quality without increasing costs. Lastly, I’ll gather quick feedback after each event to assess what worked and what didn’t, and apply those lessons moving forward. I already have experience organizing events in ECSS, and I’m confident I can make them better organized, more consistent, and more fun.

Big events
Smaller, casual drop-in events

Saad Nisar
VP Events
Personal Description
I’m Saad Nisar, a fourth year BME student, and I am running to be your next VP Events. I first started in the ECSS by organizing events in my first-year council, I was then elected twice as VP Student Life and now I am a Co-Director of Merchandise. I have volunteered at multiple EEEs and have organized Clubs’ Day, BBQs, and pot painting events.
I love team sports, being outside, and creative expression, all of which I will bring into my role as VP Events. I love getting to know my fellow students and hearing their thoughts and opinions on the ECSS, which I will bring to the table to ensure your voice is heard.
Platform Description
As your VP Events, it will be my duty to make your university experience as memorable as possible. My involvement with the ECSS has given me insight into what students want to see more of and where improvements can be made.
On top of organizing the best Engineering Excursion Evenings and charity events, I will also create interdisciplinary tournaments, beach days, board game nights and much more. I will find ways to get you more out of your EEE tickets to ensure you have an amazing night and create charity events that will be talked about for generations to come. A new event I plan to organize is the ECSS Olympics, which will consist of multiple days of challenges where the best team wins.
By communicating with different ECS student organizations, I will jointly run events that celebrate everyone in our faculty while creating a safe and welcoming environment.
By organizing Skill Devs in partnerships with Engineering and Computer Science Clubs, students can learn and apply critical engineering skills. Developmental events like Discipline Days and Upper Year Panel Discussions will continue to run, giving students the opportunity to talk with and garner advice from professionals and upper year students.
I want to hear your voice, and I will use your feedback to improve and add new events. This is why I want to create a suggestions box so that students can voice their opinions with ease.

Joban Raiwal

Personal Description
Hi, I’m Joban, a Computer Science student in the final year of my degree. I have been the president of the ECSS for the past 2 years and am excited to run for my final role in the ECSS! Through my experiences in the ECSS, I have developed a good understanding of how the ECSS works and I am excited to be running for Vice President Finance!
Platform Description
A key priority for me is making sure that volunteers are reimbursed in a timely and consistent manner. Volunteers put in a lot of effort to support ECSS, and they should not have to wait long to be reimbursed. I will ensure that reimbursement cheques are processed and distributed within two weeks of submission by staying on top of expense forms.
I am also committed to preparing well structured and forward looking budgets. My aim is to put the ECSS in a strong position not only for the upcoming year, but for future years as well. This means planning carefully and allocating funds responsibly. An important part of this is making sure that funding goes toward the services, events, and initiatives that students value most. I will prioritize listening to student feedback and working with the council to ensure that our funding is being used in ways that have the greatest impact on the student experience.
In addition, I will ensure that all financial decisions are made fairly and transparently, so that funding is distributed in a way that best supports the ECSS as a whole.
